2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove the windshield on 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser?
A: The first step to remove a windshield starts with cable removal from the negative battery terminal. Start with cable removal from battery terminals before moving to remove the windshield wiper arm cover and then disjointing front wiper components on each side of the vehicle. The next procedure requires removal of the roof antenna pole sub-assembly combined with the antenna ornament. You should start by taking out the front fender side panels including the upper LH and RH ones before moving on to remove the cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly together with its right-hand and left-hand components. Eliminate the scuff plates from both right-hand and left-hand front doors and access doors and uninstall the front floor footrest clip. The next step involves taking out both cowl side trim boards along with roof side inner garnish covers and roof side rail garnishes and front door opening trim Weather Strips from right-hand (RH) and left-hand (LH) locations. The service technician should take off the assist grip plug and assembly and visor sub-assemblies (RH and LH) and front pillar garnishes (RH and LH) and visor assemblies (RH and LH) with the visor holder. The technician must first remove the stay holder cover of the inner rear view mirror and its assembly before proceeding to detach the room light assembly. Reduce only a small portion of the front roof section yet keep it attached to the vehicle. The technician first removes the windshield outside upper moulding sub-assembly and then performs windshield drip side finish retainer extraction and front pillar and roof side garage protector removal. Protective tape should be applied to the outer windshield glass circumference followed by disassembly of six claws to remove the outer moulding. A knife should be used to cut off the windshield outside moulding only if the vehicle body remains undamaged before removing the moulding. The windshield glass removal process requires you to place protective tape on its outer edge before inserting piano wires for vehicle body separation and tying handles to these wires. Before installation attach a plastic sheet between the piano wire and safety pad to avoid painting or ornament damage on your vehicle. Apply matchmarks onto the windshield glass and vehicle body for reuse purposes after which you can slice through the adhesive with piano wire to discontinue the 2 stoppers until you finish removing the windshield glass using suction cups while preserving maximum adhesive on the body frame.
