2009 Scion xD Crankshaft Seal Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to install the rear Crankshaft Seal on 2009 Scion xD?
A: Before installing a new 2ZR-FE engine rear crankshaft oil seal you must coat its lip with MP grease. Use Special Service Tool: 09223-15030 09950-70010 with a hammer to tap the oil seal while maintaining even distribution until its surface reaches the rear oil seal retainer edge. Avoid foreign objects in the lip and keep the process straight without angled tapping and remove any excess grease from the crankshaft surface. The appropriate depth of the pressing action for the tail end oil seal retainer should be kept between -1 mm and 1 mm. The sequence begins with installation of the automatic transaxle drive plate and ring gear sub-assembly then moving to automatic transaxle assembly followed by transmission oil filler tube sub-assembly before adding transmission oil level gage sub-assembly and both nozzle and duct assemblies for the No. 1 oil cooler outlet and inlet tubes. The technician should install both the No. 2 oil cooler tube clamp before adding the flywheel sub-assembly, clutch disc along with clutch cover assembly before performing clutch cover adjustment tests. Follow the assembly order of the manual transaxle assembly along with the No. 1 transmission control cable bracket, starter assembly, flywheel housing side cover and front suspension crossmember sub-assembly and engine assembly with transaxle. Install the drive plate and torque converter clutch setting bolt, flywheel housing under cover, front drive shaft assemblies (LH and RH), front axle assemblies (LH and RH), front lower suspension arm sub-assemblies (LH and RH), front stabilizer link assemblies (LH and RH), tie rod end sub-assemblies (LH and RH), speed sensors (LH and RH), front axle shaft nuts (LH and RH), front exhaust pipe assembly, front floor brace center, front console box, rear console box assembly, console box cover rear, console box carpet, console panel upper, shift lever knob sub-assembly for manual transaxle, No. 1 steering column hole cover sub-assembly, steering sliding yoke sub-assembly, column hole cover silencer sheet, clutch release cylinder assembly for manual transaxle, fuel tube sub-assembly, heater water hose inlet A, heater water hose outlet A, engine wire, No. 1 fuel vapor feed hose, union to check valve hose, and transmission control cable assemblies for both automatic and manual transaxles. Place the pulley compressor assembly followed by the radiator assembly and then upper radiator support sub-assembly and upper radiator support absorber together with the No. 1 cooler cover and hood lock assembly and No. 2 oil cooler inlet hose and No. 1 oil cooler outlet hose and lastly the No. 1 radiator hose and No. 2 radiator hose. The service includes installation of the front bumper cover and fan & generator V belt along with an adjustment and inspection of this V belt. Start by installing the No. 2 cylinder head cover followed by the battery carrier and air cleaner bracket before adding the air cleaner assembly and outer cowl top panel and front air shutter seal RH together with front wiper motor and link but before moving on to cowl top ventilator louver LH and cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly which should be installed before the hood to cowl top seal and front wiper arm and blade assemblies (LH and RH) and front wiper arm head caps while also installing the battery tray and battery. The procedure requires adding engine coolant and automatic transaxle oil and manual transaxle oil and it also includes checking automatic and manual transaxle oil levels. The service technician should inspect fuel and oil levels and exhaust gas and engine coolant leaks before installing engine under covers (RH and LH) and front wheels and checking ignition timing and idling speed along with CO/HC levels and ABS and VSC sensor signal reading when equipped.
