• Q: How to remove the front lower Control Arm on 2009 Scion xD?

  A: The first step to remove the front lower suspension arm involves uninstalling the front wheel. Install Special Service Tool: 09960-20010 (spacer B) into the threaded section of the lower ball joint when separating the manual transaxle suspension arm components. Keep the upper ends of the tool aligned with the threaded section. Use Special Service Tools 09960-20010 and 09961-02010 to separate the lower arm by tying the tool string to the vehicle while maintaining parallel alignment of A and B and by placing the wrench on indicated parts without damaging the lower ball joint dust cover or drive shaft outboard joint boots or front disc brake dust cover. Detach the two bolts and eliminate the lower arm from the vehicle. The service sequence includes the removal of the hood sub-assembly along with front wiper arm head caps and front wiper arm assembly blades on both left-hand and right-hand sides followed by hood to cowl top seals and cowl top ventilator louver elements RH and LH and the front wiper motor and link together with the front air shutter seal RH and the outer cowl top panel. After positioning the wheels facing frontward remove successively the column hole cover silencer sheet, steering sliding yoke sub-assembly, and No. 1 steering column hole cover sub-assembly. Workers must separate the LH and RH tie rod end sub-assembly keeping in mind that the procedure applies to both sides. Secondly separate the front lower suspension arm sub-assembly LH and RH for both sides according to the same procedure then detach front stabilizer link assembly LH and RH. The procedure ends with suspending the engine assembly and removing both front suspension crossmember sub-assembly and front lower suspension arm sub-assembly LH and RH after removing the bolt and lower arm as necessary.
