2009 Scion xB Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to install the park/neutral safety switch assembly onto the manual valve lever shaft on 2009 Scion xB?
A: Begin installation of the manual valve lever park/neutral position switch by attaching the two bolts provisionally before replacing the lock plate with a new one then tightening the manual valve shaft nut to 6.9 Nm (70 kgf-cm, 61 in-lbf). First secure the control shaft lever temporarily before turning it counterwise until motion stops to perform clock-wise movements until the second notched position and then remove it. Use a screwdriver to fasten the 2 bolts at 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 in-lbf) when the groove sits at the basic neutral line. Secure the lock plate nut through staking with a screwdriver before installing the control shaft lever together with the nut while torqueing it to 13 Nm (133 kgf-cm, 10 ft-lbf). The installation of the transmission control cable assembly onto the control shaft lever requires the nut as well as torque at 12 Nm (122 kgf-cm, 9 ft-lbf) to be applied before attaching the connector to the park/neutral position switch assembly. Start with installation of the No. 2 battery carrier next to installing the battery. Check the shift lever position along with adjusting it when needed and examine the park/neutral position switch assembly.
