2009 Scion xB Crankshaft Seal Parts Q&A
Q: How to remove the rear Crankshaft Seal on 2009 Scion xB?
A: The first step to replace the 2AZ-FE engine rear crankshaft oil seal requires removal of either the automatic transaxle assembly or the manual transaxle assembly according to vehicle configuration. The removal of clutch cover assembly and clutch disc assembly is required when working with manual transaxle. The automatic transaxle requires Special Service Tool: 09213-54015 91651-60855 to stabilize the crankshaft while operators remove its drive plate and ring gear sub-assembly followed by the 8 bolts, rear drive plate spacer, drive plate and front drive plate spacer. The manual transaxle demands removal of the flywheel sub-assembly using the crankshaft holding tool similar to the one used previously to remove the 8 bolts and the flywheel. A kitchen knife should be used to cut off the lip of the oil seal while a screwdriver will be needed to pry out the oil seal. The removed crankshaft should be inspected for damage while steps should be taken to smooth it with 400-grit sandpaper if required. A screwdriver tip should be taped before usage.
