2008 Toyota Yaris Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to install the rear shock absorber on 2008 Toyota Yaris?
A: The installation of a rear shock absorber requires you to first install the rear suspension support assembly together with the rear suspension support stopper. To avoid shock absorber damage during installation you should place a wooden block between the jack and the rear axle spring seat while using this jack to support the axle beam. Slowly jack up the axle beam while using the bolt and nut to install and provisionally fasten the shock absorber (lower side) onto the frame. You should install the suspension support alongside the cushion retainer before applying torque to the new lower nut according to its specified range of 15 to 18 mm (0.591 to 0.709 in.). Tighten the new upper bolt to 25 Nm (250 kgf-cm, 18 ft-lbf) while keeping steady hold of the piston rod. Afterward, mount the rear shock absorber cap as well as the rear absorber cap that serves the hatchback. When working with the sedan fixed seat type, mount first the rear seatback assembly followed by attachment of the rear seat cushion cover pad sub-assembly. The final step requires installing the rear wheel then tightening it to a torque value of 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft-lbf). The suspension needs stabilization through the jack release while repeatedly bouncing the vehicle from the jack height. You must tighten the shock absorber bolt at the lower end to 49 Nm (500 kgf-cm, 36 ft-lbf) while checking the wheel alignment at the rear.
