- Q: How to Service and Repair a Starter Motor on 2008 Toyota Tundra?A: The 1GR-FE starter motor (for 2.0 kW Type) service requires the following steps starting with starter yoke assembly removal where operators must first detach the lead wire from the magnetic switch terminal then remove its nut then take out the two through bolts to extract starter yoke together with armature and purge the O-ring from starter yoke. The procedure starts with magnet starter switch assembly disassembly which includes removing two screws and the magnet starter switch, and then displacing the return spring, idler gear, clutch roller, retainer and starter clutch from the starter housing until extracting the steel ball through a magnetic finger into the clutch shaft hole. Start by opening up the starter yoke through the removal of its 2 screws and end cover and then extract the O-ring followed by disconnecting the 4 brushes from the brush holder while holding the spring back with a screwdriver before taking out the brush holder from the armature. The end of this process requires removal of the starter armature assembly from the yoke.
