2008 Toyota Tundra Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Power Steering Pump on 2008 Toyota Tundra?
A: The first step to service the power steering vane pump for the 1GR-FE engine requires clamp installation of the vane pump assembly into a vise through Special Service Tools: 09630-00014 09631-00132. You must first remove the bolt that links the suction port union of the vane pump before carefully extracting the O-ring using a screwdriver from this area of the suction port union. The second step involves removing both the pressure port union along with its O-ring and then disconnecting the flow control valve and compression spring. Secure the vane pump assembly in a vise using Special Service Tool: 09630-00014 09631-00132 before using a screwdriver with taped tip to carefully extract the O-ring from the rear housing while removing the four bolts which secure the rear to front housings. While extracting the vane pump shaft with its pulley utilize two screwdrivers to remove the snap ring before extracting the components unless the shaft or pulley experiences damage they need replacement. Continue to detach both the ten vane plates and the vane pump rotor. Begin by withdrawing the cam ring from the front housing then the front side plate using a screwdriver to remove the O-ring from both elements while using another screwdriver with taped tip. End the process by using a screwdriver and cloth to extract the housing oil seal ensuring you do not harm the front housing.
