2008 Toyota Tacoma Axle Shaft Parts Q&A
Q: How to reassemble the rear axle shaft on 2008 Toyota Tacoma?
A: Reinstall the rear axle shaft by first placing a new deflector gasket and deflector on the shaft in their proper alignment direction. You must screw in 5 bolts to the axle hub before adding a washer plate to the hub bolt then finally tightening the hub nut. The assembly process includes using new deflector gasket and deflector components while we correctly position the 2 notches on both parts and proceed with installing 6 axle hub bolts followed by washer plate and hub nut. Start by placing the backing plate onto the rear axle bearing before applying 2 socket wrenches with parking brake plates onto the rear axle housing bolts at various points throughout the assembly process. Note that the part numbers for the left and right bearing assemblies differ and they must not be swapped. The next installation step requires placement of the rear axle shaft plate washer onto the rear axle shaft before fitting a new rear axle bearing retainer inner onto the rear axle shaft. Special Service Tool: 09521-25011 along with a press enables the installation of the rear axle shaft onto the rear axle bearing before a snap ring expander installs a new snap ring.
