- Q: How to remove the water pump on 2008 Toyota Sienna?A: The first step for water pump removal from the 2GR-FE requires engine and transaxle separation followed by proper engine stabilizing. Unplug the generator assembly and then remove the compressor then the magnetic clutch. The first step requires removal of the No. 1 engine front mounting bracket along with the No. 2 idler pulley sub-assembly after detaching two bolts from each part and removing both idler pulley cover plates and sub-assemblies. Proceed by disassembling the V-ribbed belt tensioner assembly after you separate its 5 bolts. Special Service Tool numbers 09960-10010 09962-01000, 09963-00700 will enable holding the pulley in position before removing the 4 bolts and pulley. The water inlet housing requires a dispersed connection to hose before the removal of 2 bolts, nut and housing which will also extract the water inlet housing gasket along with the water outlet pipe O-ring. Disassembly ends with removing the water pump assembly while you unscrew its 16 bolts and discard the assembly along with the gasket.
