Now coming to the Toyota Sienna car model, the Water Pump facilitates the circulation of coolant from the radiator to the car's engine to transfer heat produced during combustion. Today Water Pumps are predominantly of aluminum casting with rotational shaft and an impeller for passage of coolant. Signs that may suggest that your Water Pump is failing include cases of leaks in the coolant, squealing sounds that result from worn out bearings, and cases of overheating of the engine. Performance Water Pumps are designed for high-performance engines; it delivers high amounts of coolant with less power use. Electric Water Pumps are also available along with plug and play advantages such as coolant flow with or without the engine and post shutdown cooling. Various types of Water Pumps include modification of the OE cast iron and custom aluminum water pump depending on the engines cooling criterion.

Toyota Sienna Water Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the water pump on Toyota Sienna?
    A:
A water pump service or repair requires the draining of engine coolant during the first step. The service and repair of the water pump begins with removing the outer front cowl top panel assembly and following it with the Timing Belt along with camshaft timing pulleys and No.2 idler pulley and finally the No.3 timing belt cover. The installation requires removing the water pump by unbolting its four fixtures together with two nuts and the gasket and pump separately. The drain hole of the water pump should be examined visually for coolant leaks during inspection. Replace the water pump if any leakage is present. Inspection requires a pulley rotation check for the smooth operation of the water pump bearing along with necessary water pump replacement. Examine all components belonging to the timing belt system. Align a new gasket along with the water pump before mounting it into place via the 4 bolts and 2 nuts while applying torque to 6 Nm (60 kgf-cm, 53 inch lbs.) and avoiding gasket contact with oil. After installing the No.3 timing belt cover proceed to install the No.2 idler pulley along with the camshaft timing pulleys and timing belt before you complete the installation with the outer front cowl top panel assembly. Perform the first start-up by adding engine coolant then inspect for any leakage while verifying the engine coolant reading.
  • Q: How to install the water pump assembly on Toyota Sienna?
    A:
The water pump assembly installation demands a new gasket positioned first for bolt fastening that requires bolting 16 pieces but the threads of bolt A should stay oil-free and its torques set at 21 Nm (214 kgf-cm, 15 ft-lbf) while bolts B and C are torqued at 9.1 Nm (93 kgf-cm, 81 in-lbf). Two bolts C require new replacements or must use Toyota Genuine Adhesive 1344, Three Bond 1344, or equivalent products. The water inlet housing requires installation of a new gasket and O-ring on the water outlet pipe before attaching it with two bolts and a nut and torquing to 10 Nm (102 kgf-cm, 7 ft-lbf). Make sure to avoid pinching the O-ring during installation. Install the water pump pulley provisionally using four bolts before securing it with Special Service Tools: 09960-10010, 09962-01000, 09963-00700 to torque bolts to 21 Nm (214 kgf-cm, 15 ft-lbf). The installation of 5 bolts securing the V-ribbed belt tensioner assembly should be completed with torque at 43 Nm (438 kgf-cm, 32 ft-lbf) and followed by installing 2 idler pulley cover plates and idler pulley sub-assemblies with 2 bolts torqued to the same value of 43 Nm (438 kgf-cm, 32 ft-lbf). Install the lower mounting bracket for engine No. 1 followed by the generator unit and then the compressor with magnetic clutch and finally the engine suspension components. After moving the engine stand replace the complete engine unit with transaxle, complete the engine coolant addition, then check for coolant leakage.
