2007 Toyota Sienna Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the water pump on 2007 Toyota Sienna?
A: Service and repair operations for the water pump begin after completing removal of engine assembly with transaxle and completing engine securement. Start by discarding the generator assembly together with compressor and magnetic clutch and No. 1 engine front mounting bracket LH and No. 2 idler pulley sub-assembly through the removal of 2 bolts and 2 cover plates and 2 pulley sub-assemblies. The V-ribbed belt tensioner assembly should be removed by disassembling the 5 bolts before using Special Service Tools: 09960-10010 (09962-01000, 09963-00700) to hold the water pump pulley during the 4 bolt removal process. The procedure begins by eliminating water hose connection and subsequent action of removing two bolts alongside a water inlet housing nut and water inlet housing gasket while extracting the water outlet pipe O-ring. All components requiring replacement start with the removal of 16 bolts which allows separation of the water pump assembly and its accompanying water pump gasket from the system. The water pump assembly needs evaluation for coolant leakages at its drain and air ports alongside a verification of its bearing's smooth and noiseless movement; a new water pump should be installed if either condition is not met. The installation sequence begins with new water pump gaskets and a water pump assembly that needs 16 bolts torqued to 21 Nm (214 kgf-cm, 15 ft. lbs.) for bolt A followed by 9.1 Nm (93 kgf-cm, 81 inch lbs.) for bolts B and C. It is essential to check bolt A threads for absence of oil contaminants and the replacement of bolts C using new parts or adhesive 1344. The installation process includes placement of new water inlet housing No. 1 gasket and a water outlet pipe O-ring followed by securing bolts and a nut to 10 Nm (102 kgf-cm, 7 ft. lbs.) while maintaining O-ring clearance. After installation reconnect the water hose. The technician installs the water pump pulley using 4 bolts before using Special Service Tool: 09960-10010 (09962-01000, 09963-00700) to secure it before torquing the bolts to 21 Nm (214 kgf-cm, 15 ft. lbs. Begin the procedure by installing the V-ribbed belt tensioner assembly using 5 bolts tightened to 43 Nm (438 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.). The following step includes installation of the No. 2 idler pulley sub-assembly with 2 bolts torqued to 43 Nm (438 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.). The last step of repair involves installing the No. 1 engine front mounting bracket LH after generator assembly and compressor and magnetic clutch and hangers and then removing the engine stand to reinstall the engine-transaxle assembly before checking coolant leaks.
