Two dust protectors need to be removed first when starting the starter motor disassembly process. Start by removing two screws from the starter clutch sub-assembly before accessing the return spring, idler gear, clutch roller, retainer, O-ring and starter clutch from the starter housing. Use a magnetic finger to obtain the steel ball from the clutch shaft hole. The procedure to remove the starter brush holder assembly begins with removing two screws and two O-rings and the end cover from the starter yoke followed by removing the O-ring from the starter yoke before disconnecting the brush from the brush holder by holding back the spring with a screwdriver and disconnecting all four brushes to extract the brush holder. The removal process ends by taking the starter armature out from the starter yoke.
