2007 Toyota Sequoia Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the starter motor on 2007 Toyota Sequoia?
A: The starter motor disassembly process starts before any service or repair tasks. Start by loosening the nut while disconnecting the lead wire from the magnetic switch terminal at 5.9 N.m of torque (60 kgf.cm and 52 in.lbf). Disassemble the starter motor by first starting with 2 through bolts whose torque needs to be 9.3 N.m (95 kgf.cm, 82 in.lbf) before extracting the field frame and armature from the magnetic switch assembly while positioning the field frame protrusion correctly within the magnetic switch groove. The O-ring should be extracted from the field frame and replacing it with a fresh O-ring will be necessary for reassembly. Begin by untightening the torque of 9.3 N.m (95 kgf.cm, 82 in.lbf) on two screws to free the starter housing from the magnetic switch assembly along with the return spring and the idler gear and bearing and starter clutch assembly. Before reassembly insert the return spring into the clutch shaft hole after applying grease and remove the steel ball with a magnetic finger. The magnetic finger should remove the steel ball from the clutch shaft hole while you grease it beforehand to reinstall it during assembly. Take off the field frame end cover together with the screws that have O-rings by using a torque of 3.8 N.m (39 kgf.cm, 34 in.lbf) and extract the O-ring before installing a new one in the reassembly process. After using a screwdriver to keep the spring in position the brush release can be achieved by disconnecting it from the brush holder followed by removal of the brushes and brush holder. Positive lead wire inspection should confirm they avoid electrical grounding. Content of work includes taking out the armature from the field frame during which time high-temperature grease must lubricate both bearing and gears.
