2008 Toyota Land Cruiser Axle Shaft Parts Q&A
Q: How to disassemble the axle shaft assembly on 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: A screwdriver can be used to remove the snap ring from the inboard joint shaft for front drive shaft assembly disassembly. Use a side cutter to first cut and then remove the setting clamps of both front No. 2 and No. 1 axle inboard joint boots. Bare the inboard joint boot from its set connection to the shaft but keep the matchmarks simple between the inboard and outboard joint shafts. The inboard joint shaft needs its snap ring removed by screwdriver to separate both shafts from one another. After marking the outboard joint shaft and its inner race as well as cage units apply gentle force to slide the cage towards the outboard joint direction before ball removal. You should employ a snap ring expander tool to detach the snap ring while using a brass bar and hammer to gently strike off the inner race without damaging it prior to removing the cage. First remove the outboard joint boot that covers the inboard joint shaft and afterward use a side cutter to strip the setting clamps off from the front No. 1 and No. 2 axle outboard joint boots. Finish the repair by eliminating the outboard joint boot from the outboard joint shaft while using Special Service Tool: 09950-00020 to extract the dust cover without dropping the inboard joint shaft.
