2008 Toyota Camry Axle Shaft Parts Q&A
Q: How to disassemble the axle shaft for TMMK made on 2008 Toyota Camry?
A: The process to remove the snap ring of the TMMK-made front drive shaft begins with tooling the front drive shaft LH hole snap ring with a screwdriver. The procedure continues with pliers to detach the No. 2 front axle inboard joint boot clamp and the front axle inboard joint boot clamp by employing the technique used for the No. 2 clamp. You should first disconnect the front axle inboard joint boot from the outboard joint assembly before cleaning out the inboard joint assembly grease and applying matchmarks to both components apart from the boot. Avoid punching anytime between steps. A snap ring expander helps detach the inboard joint assembly from the outboard joint shaft so the shaft snap ring can be removed. Use matchmarks on the outboard joint shaft and tripod joint before separating them from the shaft by striking them with a brass bar under a hammer while avoiding the roller. Take off the inboard joint boot from the outboard joint shaft before using pliers to detach drive shaft damper clamps then remove the drive shaft damper parts on both Left Hand and Right Hand sides. The front axle outboard joint boot clamp on No. 2 and the front axle outboard joint boot clamp must be taken off with pliers in the same order as the No. 2 clamp. The boot covering the outboard joint shaft must be dismounted to achieve cleaning of the outboard joint's grease. Special Service Tool: 09950-00020, a press and its application are needed first to extract drive shaft dust cover LH. The process continues with drive shaft dust cover RH removal via a press before repeating the dust cover extraction steps using Special Service Tool: 09950-00020 and a press. When removing the front drive shaft bearing, first expand the drive shaft hole snap ring with a snap ring expander followed by the bearing extraction using Special Service Tool: 09527-10011 with a press. Lastly, remove the bearing bracket hole snap ring while safeguarding the inboard joint assembly from falling.
