- Q: How to remove the parking brake cable on 2008 Scion xD?A: The first step to remove the parking brake cable involves removing the manual transaxle shift lever knob sub-assembly followed by the upper console panel and the rear console box cover and console box carpet and finally the rear console box sub-assembly. First remove the rear wheel together with its rear brake drum sub-assembly then proceed to the rear brake shoe kit removal. The removal process begins with the front No. 4 floor heat insulator along with the fuel tank cover vent case sub-assembly from the right-hand side. The procedure requires loosening the No. 1 wire adjusting nut by untightening both the lock nut and wire adjusting nut. Separating the parking brake cable ends from the parking brake pull rod requires you to remove cable clamp A from its stud bolt then unfasten all 4 bolts until you can break cable clamp B free and extract the bolt to withdraw the parking brake cable from the backing plate.
