  • Q: How to safely deploy and dispose of a vehicle's driver side knee Air Bag assembly on 2008 Scion tC?
    A: To safely scrap a vehicle containing an SRS system or manage a driver side knee Air Bag assembly disposal it is necessary first to activate the Air Bag using Special Service Tool 09082-00700 outdoors because of the loud explosion noise. The removal process of the Air Bag assembly requires nine zero seconds to pass after disconnecting the negative (-) battery terminal. The Air Bag assembly requires connection to the Special Service Tool before relocating it at least 10 m (33 ft) away from the vehicle while closing all doors and windows and applying the tool to a battery. Press the activation switch to deploy the Air Bag only if there is no person inside the vehicle or within 10 m (33 ft) of it. Users who need to discard Air Bag assemblies without vehicle installation must wrap them in service-purpose wire harnesses with 1.25 sq.mm (0.0019 sq.in) minimum area to place the assembly inside tires with deployment side facing inward. The assembly needs to be secured within two tires stacked above and below it while using wire harnesses to tie them together before using Special Service Tool: 09082-00700. Make sure to deploy the Air Bag in an empty space and use gloves and protective glasses during the operation before placing the cooling Air Bag inside a plastic bag for at least half an hour. Hand washing becomes mandatory immediately after finishing the operation.
