2007 Toyota Yaris Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the vacuum brake booster on 2007 Toyota Yaris?
A: Service and repair procedures for the vacuum brake booster start with disconnecting the negative battery cable and draining brake fluid while washing off paint-colored surfaces touched by fluid. The service requires removing the front wiper arm head cap together with the left and right front wiper arm and blade assemblies before extracting hatchback hood to cowl top seal units or sedan cowl side ventilator sub-assemblies. The service technician must uninstall the cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly together with the left louver for hatchbacks and the front wiper motor and link and cowl to register duct sub-assembly for hatchbacks. The procedure requires the front air shutter seal for sedans and the outer cowl top panel along with the instrument panel under cover sub-assembly, the lower instrument panel finish panel sub-assembly and the battery tray and battery carrier. When ABS is present on the vehicle first separate the brake actuator followed by disconnecting the clutch reservoir tube for manual transmissions before moving to the brake master cylinder extractions. The brake booster requires separation of the brake master cylinder push rod clevis before using Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 to disconnect the two brake tubes from brake tube No. 1 way and to remove the brake tube assembly from the proportioning valve. The brake booster assembly can be extracted with the gasket when you remove the vacuum hose from its check valve while sliding the clip and taking out the four nuts. Brake booster maintenance begins with removing its brake vacuum check valve assembly through vacuum check valve and grommet extraction. Place the grommet onto the brake booster first until you can install the vacuum check valve on top. The brake booster requires a new gasket and four nuts to secure it afterward while you adjust the brake pedal height using the push rod lock nut before tightening the push rod clevis to the brake booster unit. Torque the nuts to 9.0 N m (92 kgf cm, 80 in. lbf). Link the vacuum hose to the vacuum check valve by using a clip while using Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 along with following the specified torque settings of 15 N m (155 kgf cm, 11 ft. lbf) without the tool and 14 N m (143 kgf cm, 10 ft. lbf) with this tool to connect the brake tube assembly to the proportioning valve on models without ABS. Apply this procedure once again to install the two brake tubes onto brake tube No. 1 way. The brake master cylinder push rod clevis needs installation while inspecting and readjusting the brake booster push rod before mounting the brake master cylinder. Manual transaxle owners should reconnect their clutch reservoir tube and then install the brake actuator when equipped with ABS technology on their vehicles before reinstalling the battery carrier and tray as well as the battery. Installation should progress with the lower instrument panel finish panel sub-assembly, instrument panel under cover sub-assembly, outer cowl top panel, then the cowl to register duct sub-assembly for hatchbacks followed by front air shutter seal for sedans. The procedure includes reinstallation of the front wiper motor together with its link and cowl top ventilator louver LH for hatchbacks, cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly, hood to cowl top seal for hatchbacks, and cowl side ventilator sub-assemblies for sedans. For the completion process reinstall the left and right front wiper arm and blade assemblies along with the front wiper arm head cap. Then reconnect the cable to the negative battery terminal while applying 5.4 N m (55 kgf cm, 48 in. lbf) torque and complete the procedure by filling the reservoir with brake fluid, bleeding the master cylinder and brake line, inspecting the brake fluid level and checking for fluid leakage followed by adjusting the brake pedal if needed.
