2007 Toyota Solara Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the parking brake cable on 2007 Toyota Solara?
A: The process for servicing the parking brake cable begins by removing the shift lever knob sub-assembly with console upper rear panel sub-assembly then console box assembly and air duct rear No.1 assembly and air duct rear No.2 assembly and yaw rate sensor assembly (w/VSC). Proceed to the next step where you will remove the No.1 parking brake cable assembly after disengaging the parking brake lever then removing both the lock nut followed by the parking brake adjusting nut. A screwdriver should be used to lift the pick on the parking brake lever before removing the parking brake cable assembly No.1. The first step requires removal of two bolts and console box mounting bracket No.2 then separating parking brake cable No.1 from the parking brake equalizer. Remove the rear wheel before separating the rear disc brake caliper assembly on the left-hand side without detaching the flexible hose. Beginning with the rear disc one should remove the parking brake shoe return tension spring followed by the parking brake shoe strut compression spring and the parking brake shoe strut LH and finally the parking brake shoe. The parking brake heat insulator requires removal of its three retaining nuts to separate. Detach the No.3 parking brake cable assembly by disconnecting it from the backing plate then the body before separating it from the equalizer. The installation process of the parking brake cable assembly No.3 requires attachment to the parking brake equalizer followed by installation onto the body using two nuts and a bolt and completion through the backing plate with two bolts which must adhere to these torque values: Nut 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 inch lbs.), Bolt 6.0 Nm (61 kgf-cm, 53 inch lbs.), and backing plate bolts 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 inch lbs.). Install the parking brake cable heat insulator while tightening it with three nuts to 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 inch lbs.) then apply high-temperature grease before mounting the parking brake shoe followed by parking brake shoe strut LH, parking brake shoe strut compression spring, and parking brake shoe return tension spring. Complete your inspection on the parking braking system and set the disc brakes while calibrating brake shoe clearance. The rear disc brake caliper assembly should be installed with two bolts reaching 47 Nm torque (480 kgf-cm and 35 ft. lbs.) while the rear wheel requires 103 Nm torque (1,050 kgf-cm and 76 ft. lbs.). You must install the parking brake cable assembly No.1 to the parking brake equalizer while tightening bolts to 22 Nm (225 kgf-cm, 16 ft. lbs.) before mounting the console box bracket No.2 with two bolts at 12.5 Nm (128 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.). Implement the parking brake adjusting nut and lock nut to attach the parking brake cable assembly No.1 to the parking brake lever assembly while maintaining 5.0 Nm (51 kgf-cm, 44 inch lbs.) torque then secure it to the pick with a screwdriver. Install the yaw rate sensor assembly with VSC functionality and then perform a check of parking brake lever movement and make needed adjustments.
