2007 Toyota Sienna Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the knock sensor on 2007 Toyota Sienna?
A: The service process for the knock sensor starts by pressing out fuel system pressure followed by V-bank cover sub-assembly removal and draining of engine coolant before extracting the windshield wiper motor assembly. Service operations begin with the removal of the front outer cowl top panel subassembly after which you should remove the air cleaner cap sub-assembly then proceed with removing the air cleaner case sub-assembly and the intake air surge tank assembly. Start by disconnecting both throttle body by-pass water hoses [A], vapor feed hose [B], throttle body connector [C] with clamp and ventilation hose [D], union to check valve hose [E] along with connector [F]. The work requires using a 5 mm socket hexagon wrench to remove the 4 bolts [G] followed by extracting the intake air surge tank [H] with its 2 nuts and 2 bolts while removing the gasket from the intake air surge tank [I]. The procedure demands separating the fuel main tube sub-assembly from the intake manifold so the knock control sensor can be removed by disconnecting each of its two connectors followed by removing its two retaining bolts. To install the knock control sensors start by attaching them to their respective 2 bolts with 20 Nm torque (204 kgf.cm, 15 ft. lbs.) then connect the 2 knock control sensor connectors. After installing the intake manifold and the fuel main tube sub-assembly and the intake air surge tank the technician should avoid applying oil to bolts. Install the new surge tank gasket at position [A] before installing the four bolts with a 5 mm hexagon socket wrench [B] and torque them to 18 Nm (184 kgf.cm/13 ft. lbs.) while using the two nuts [C] and two bolts [D] that require a torque of 16 Nm (163 kgf.cm/12 ft. lbs.) for the nuts and 21 Nm (214 kgf.cm/15 ft. lbs.) for the bolts. Plug the connector [D] after attaching the union to check valve hose [E] and ventilation hose No. 2 [F]. Then, secure the throttle with motor body assembly connector [G] using clamps before connecting the vapor feed hose [H] and the 2 water by-pass hoses to the throttle with motor body assembly [I]. You must replace the air cleaner case sub-assembly with the air cleaner cap sub-assembly while adding engine coolant and evaluating leakages before you reinstall the front outer cowl top panel subassembly with the windshield wiper motor assembly and the V-bank cover sub-assembly.
