2007 Toyota RAV4 Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to remove and replace the brake master cylinder on 2007 Toyota RAV4?
A: The process starts with keeping the master cylinder tip in a downward position to prevent piston fall-out then cleaning the piston before applying lithium soap base glycol grease along its outer edge. The brake master cylinder replacement starts by removing the air cleaner case through detachment of the air cleaner case sub-assembly for 2AZ-FE or air cleaner cap sub-assembly for 2GR-FE. When draining brake fluid avoid painted surfaces by swiftly cleaning up any fluid spills. After turning off the engine users must push the brake pedal several times to relieve pressure from the brake booster vacuum system. Use Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 to disconnect the two brake lines labeled B from the master cylinder while following the step of removing the brake fluid level warning switch connector labeled A. Extract the master cylinder from the brake booster by removing its two nuts yet maintaining proper position of the piston. Before you install the new O-ring install it into the master cylinder port before tightening two booster nuts to 12.5 Nm (127 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.). Use the essential service tool 09023-00101 on brake lines B to mount them correctly with 15.2 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.) torque (when not using the tool) or 14 Nm (144 kgf-cm, 10 ft. lbs.) torque (with the tool). The torque wrench should have a 30 cm (11.81 inches) long fulcrum. Complete the connection of A-type brake fluid warning switch connector and add brake fluid into the reservoir whereby you must remove air from the brake master cylinder along with brake lines and ABS and traction actuator assembly. Check the brake fluid content in the container while inspecting leak areas before putting the air cleaner housing back into place.
