2007 Toyota RAV4 Wheel Hub Parts Q&A
Q: How to service and repair the front Wheel Hub on 2007 Toyota RAV4?
A: You need to take off the front wheel and empty automatic transaxle fluid before starting to work on the front wheel hub. To dissociate the cable from its battery connection you need 90 seconds before any Air Bags or safety features will react when you detach the negative terminal. Use Special Service Tool: 09930-00010 and a hammer to gently unfasten the LH hub bolt. Keep the drive shaft screw from getting harmed by loosening the nuts fully. During braking apply force then uncover the lock hub wheel nut before taking off the left-hand wheel speed sensor, left-hand Brake Cylinder and left-hand front disc. Detach the tie rod end and front suspension No. 1 lower arm sub-assemblies LH by removing the bolt, two nuts and disconnecting it from the ball joint. Separate the steering knuckle from wheel hub through two bolt and two nut removal plus shock absorber detachment. Label drive shaft and wheel hub positioning then strike the assembly gently to remove without wrecking the boot and speed sensor rotor. Through correct bolt unscrewing use the steering knuckle to take out both front lower ball joint assembly LH and front wheel hub sub-assembly LH. Keep the hub away from direct contact with foreign matter and ensure the magnet rotor side does not face downward. Finally, separate the dust cover from the steering knuckle. First put on the dust cover to the steering knuckle then place the wheel hub using four bolts at 71 ft. lbs. of torque (97 unit lbs) without damaging the magnet rotor side. You can install the left-hand front lower ball joint assembly and drive the drive shaft into its splines first. Then affix the steering knuckle and wheel hub with two bolts and two nuts before tightening them up to 240 Nm (2,447 kgf-cm, 177 ft. lbs.) without spinning the bolts. Fit the front suspension No. 1 lower arm sub-assembly LH to the ball joint and tighten using a bolt and two nuts at 92 Nm (938 kgf-cm, 68 ft. lbs.). Afterwards, connect the tie rod end sub-assembly LH and install the front speed sensor LH. Examine the front wheel hub bearing while simultaneously installing both the front disc assembly and front disc brake cylinder unit on the left-hand side. Set the new front wheel hub LH nut to 216 Nm (2,203 kgf-cm) for 2AZ-FE when using a 26mm socket and to 292 Nm (2,978 kgf-cm) for 2GR-FE with a 30mm socket. Use a chisel and hammer to stake the hub nut. Replace the automatic transaxle fluid then reattach the front wheel by tightening it to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.). After reviewing wheel alignment complete the battery connection and test the speed sensor function.
