2007 Toyota Prius Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service the rear Wheel Stud on 2007 Toyota Prius?
A: The service process for the rear wheel stud must start with a rear wheel removal followed by the removal of the rear brake drum sub-assembly while using matchmarks for later hub and brake drum alignment. The removal of the rear wheel stud LH requires attaching two temporary nuts to any two hub bolts but excluding the replacement bolt. The service process requires Special Service Tool 09628-10011 supported by either a screwdriver or equivalent to immobilize the front axle so you can remove the wheel stud that needs replacing. A new wheel stud receives placement into its stud hole accompanied by a plate washer and nut positioned on the wheel stud end. A screwdriver or equivalent device should stabilize the front axle during wheel stud tightening by engaging the nut. After that, remove the nut along with plate washer and each of the two temporary nuts. A plate washer at least 5 mm thick should be used for better performance. The brake drum sub-assembly must be installed next by properly aligning the matchmarks between brake drum and axle hub before the rear wheel should be installed using a torque of 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.).
