2007 Toyota Land Cruiser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the alternator on 2007 Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: The first step for alternator repair involves its component breakdown. The first step is to separate the three nuts and end cover from the generator rear end before taking out the terminal insulator. Start by removing the generator brush holder assembly through screwing out its two screws. Secure the pulley to the rotor shaft with Adapter (A) containing Service Tool 09820-63011 and proceed to tighten the torque wrench socket clockwise to 39 Nm (400 kgf.cm, 29 ft.lbf) until the tool remains firmly attached. Fix the adapter inside a vise while installing the socket and fastening the pulley nut to the adapter. Adjust the pulley nut's position using the holding tool while turning it clockwise but only proceed for half a revolution to safeguard the rotor shaft. Begin by removing the generator from the adapter and then disconnect the socket and pulley holding tool before handling the pulley nut and pulley. Use Special Service Tool 09950-40011 along with other specified tools to remove the generator coil assembly by first removing 4 bolts. Afterward remove the generator washer. Reassembly commences with the generator rotor assembly setup that requires the drive end frame placement onto the pulley followed by rotor installation. The generator coil assembly must be inserted using Special Service Tool 09285-76010 as a press system while gradually tightening the 4 bolts to 5.8 N.m (59 kgf.cm, 51 in.lbf). Screw the pulley nut by hand onto the rotor shaft before applying Special Service Tool 09820-63011 to torque the socket clockwise to 39 N.m (398 kg.cm, 29 ft.lb) while keeping the tool fixed to the pulley shaft. Set the adapter inside a vise before inserting the socket which will guide the pulley nut attachment to the adapter. Torque the pulley nut clockwise to 111 N.m (1,125 kg.cm, 81 ft.lb). Separate the generator from the adapter before you take off the socket along with the pulley holding tool. To install the generator brush holder assembly first insert the 1.0 mm (0.039 in.) pin through the brush holder hole while keeping the 2 brushes pushed inward. Secure the brush holder with 2 screws at 1.8 N.m (18 kgf.cm, 16 in.lbf) torque and then remove the pin. You should install the terminal insulator to the generator rectifier end frame while maintaining correct orientation and secure the end cover through 3 nuts which need a torque setting of 4.6 N.m (47 kgf.cm, 41 in.lbf).
