2008 Toyota Land Cruiser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to reassemble the alternator on 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: Start alternator assembly by fixing the drive end frame onto the pulley followed by rotors installation onto the frame. Install the generator washer onto the rotor before using a press along with a 21 mm socket wrench to gradually insert the coil assembly. Afterward, secure the 4 bolts with 7.5 Nm torque (76 kgf-cm, 66 in-lbf). Begin with the generator brush holder assembly by moving the two brushes inside the holder then drop a pin measuring 1.0 mm diameter (0.0394 in) into the brush holder opening before screwing the holder with two screws at 1.8 Nm torque setting from which you must remove the pin afterward. Install the terminal insulator to the generator rectifier end frame and check its proper orientation before fixing it with a 3 nut end cover that you must torque to 4.6 Nm (46 kgf-cm, 40 in-lbf). The rotor shaft receives the generator pulley followed by hand-tightening the pulley nut then attachment of Special Service Tool1-A with a torque wrench which tightens Special Service Tool1-B clockwise to 39 Nm (398 kgf-cm, 29 ft-lbf) while maintaining Special Service Tool's shaft connection. The mechanic should mount Special Service Tool2 into a vise before inserting Special Service Tool1-A and B into Special Service Tool2. Then proceed with attaching the pulley nut to the Tool2 system. With Special Service Tool1-A, perform the indicated procedure to apply 133 Nm (1351 kgf-cm, 98 ft-lbf) torque while removing the generator from Special Service Tool2, then detach Special Service Tool1-A and B and verify the pulley exhibits smooth rotation.
