2007 Toyota Land Cruiser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the starter motor on 2007 Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: The starter motor removal process begins with fuel system pressure discharge and engine coolant removal as well as a 90-second wait before negative terminal cable disconnection to avoid Air Bag-seat belt pretensioner activation. Begin by disconnecting the 8 fuel injector connectors and throttle position sensor and control motor connector and engine coolant temperature sensor connector on the V-bank sub-assembly cover, intake air connector and fuel hoses, ventilation hose, purge VSV and vacuum control valve set, then the engine wire, before removing its 3 bolts. Disconnect the No.7 water by-pass hose followed by removing the intake manifold assembly by unfastening its 6 bolts and 4 nuts to complete the removal of the water by-pass pipe sub-assembly and rear water by-pass joint. The worker begins by disconnecting the starter connector then removes the nut and starter cable and disconnects the engine wire protector before taking out the 2 bolts. Start by installing the starter assembly using 2 bolts with 39 N.m torque (400 kgf.cm and 29 ft.lbf) and then add the engine wire protector followed by starter cable installation using 9.8 N.m torque (100 kgf.cm and 86 in.lbf) and the starter connector attachment. The service requires installation of the air switching valve assembly followed by the air pump assembly with bracket and the rear water by-pass joint with 2 new gaskets while securing all 4 nuts to 18 N.m (185 kgf.cm, 13 ft.lbf). The water by-pass pipe sub-assembly requires installation using a new O-ring and soapy water application before torquing the nut to 18 N.m (185 kgf.cm, 13 ft.lbf). The intake manifold assembly requires installation with 2 new gaskets and 4 bolts and 2 nuts which need to be torqued to 18 N.m (185 kgf.cm, 13 ft.lbf). Connect the water by-pass hoses and install the engine wire by using 3 bolts tightened to 8.2 N.m (83 kgf.cm, 72 in.lbf). Additionally, reattach the engine coolant temperature sensor as well as the throttle position sensor and control motor connector and 8 fuel injector connectors. To complete the task you must install the vacuum control valve set, purge VSV and ventilation hose, fuel hoses, intake air connector and perform engine coolant addition, leak check followed by installation of the V-bank cover sub-assembly and system initialization steps including terminal disconnection procedures.
