2006 Toyota Land Cruiser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the alternator on 2006 Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: Service and repair procedures on the alternator should begin by disconnecting the negative battery terminal cable and allowing at least 90 seconds of waiting time to avoid Air Bag and seat belt pretensioner activation. The drive belt and fluid coupling assembly require removal which begins by disconnecting the 2 oil cooler hoses from the fan shroud followed by removing the 3 bolts to disconnect the fan shroud from the radiator and after that the 4 nuts are used to disconnect the fan with fluid coupling from the vehicle. The generator installation begins by disconnecting the vane pump assembly followed by the generator assembly whose steps include removing the generator connector before taking off the terminal cap and nut to release the generator wire and disconnecting the generator wire clamp from the cord clip on the generator and separating the generator with bolt and 2 nuts. During installation first attach the generator assembly by adding the bolt and 2 nuts while applying 39 N.m (400 kgf.cm, 29 ft.lbf) for bolt and nut (A) and 16 N.m (163 kgf.cm, 12 ft.lbf) for nut (B). Use the generator connector to start before you join the generator wire through its nut and terminal cap while setting the nut torque to 9.8 N.m (100 kgf.cm, 86 in.lbf). Then attach the generator wire clamp to the generator cord clip. The installation proceeds with placing the fan with fluid coupling and fan shroud into the engine room at once, then installing the fan's 3 bolts with 5.0 N.m (51 kgf.cm, 44 in.lbf) torque followed by using 4 nuts to secure the fan with fluid coupling at 29 N.m (296 kgf.cm, 21 ft.lbf). Put the drive belt into place before reconnecting the cable to the battery negative terminal then complete system initialization and remember particular systems need initialization when the cable is removed from the negative terminal.
