2005 Toyota Land Cruiser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the alternator on 2005 Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: The engine coolant needs to be drained before starting alternator service and repair operations. The next steps involve removing the generator drive belt after counterclockwise movement of the belt tensioner while taking note of the pulley bolt threaded in the left-hand direction. You will start by taking off engine under cover No.1 then removing the radiator assembly and PS vane pump. The procedure for generator removal includes disconnecting the generator connector and removing the rubber cap together with the nut to disconnect the generator wire followed by detaching the generator wire clamp from the cord clip and removing the bolt and two nuts which secure the generator. The generator installation requires placing the bolt and both of the nuts with proper torque configuration where tightness of bolt and nut A reaches 39 Nm (400 kgf-cm, 29 ft-lbf) but nut B requires 15.5 Nm (158 kgf-cm, 11 ft-lbf). After connecting the generator connector users should mount the generator wire using a nut that requires torque force 9.8 Nm (100 kgf-cm, 87 in.-lbf) while installing the terminal cap and wire clamp onto the cord clip. The next step involves restorage of the PS vane pump along with the radiator assembly and generator drive belt while keeping in mind the pulley bolt requires left-hand threading. Engine coolant addition to the radiator should be followed by engine startup to search for leaks while double-checking the engine coolant level then performing a vehicle examination followed by reinstallation of engine under cover No.1.
