How to remove and install the Engine Control Module on 2007 Toyota Highlander?

The first step to remove the Engine Control Module (ECM) requires users to disconnect the battery negative terminal. Start by removing the front door scuff plate on the right-hand side followed by the cowl side trim sub-assembly on the right-hand side and the glove compartment door assembly and instrument panel finish panel lower No.2. The removal of ECM starts when you detach both wire harness clamps then disconnect the 5 ECM connectors before you take off the 2 nuts holding the ECM in place. Start by unscrewing the 2 screws of ECM bracket No.1 before removing ECM bracket No.2 through the same procedure. Begin ECM bracket No.2 installation by fastening it with two screws as you proceed to add ECM bracket No.1 with its two screws. Connect the ECM by attaching its wire harness clamps first and then connect all 5 connectors before securing the ECM with 2 nuts tightened to 5.5 N.m (56 kgf.cm, 49 in.lbf). The installation process ends by placing the instrument panel finish panel lower No.2 and glove compartment door assembly together with cowl side trim sub-assembly RH and front door scuff plate RH before reattaching the battery negative terminal.
