2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the front Sway Bar Kit on 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser?
A: The service and repair process for the front sway bar kit starts by taking off the front wheels and the engine under cover sub-assembly. Start by detaching the left-hand front sway bar link assembly through removal of 2 nuts combined with sway bar link removal. A 6 mm hexagon wrench will help maintain the stud position if ball joint adjustment occurs with the nut. Repetition of this procedure should also apply to the right-hand side. The next step requires the elimination of the front sway bar kit by dissolving the 4 bolts followed by removing the 2 sway bar brackets. Disassemble the sway bar kit by taking out its 2 bushes. During inspection perform five stud rotations followed by continuous nut torquing using a wrench at a speed of 2 to 4 seconds per turn until the 5th turn reaches between 0.05 to 1.96 N m (0.5 to 20.0 kgf cm, 0.4 to 17.3 in. lbf). The ball joint dust cover needs inspection for both joint cracks and grease leakage. Begin installation by fitting the two sway bar bushes onto the sway bar kit while keeping the bush outside the bush stopper and its protrusion directed toward the interior of the vehicle. After installing the sway bar kit with the 4 bolts attach the 2 sway bar brackets before torquing all bolts to 40 N m (408 kgf cm, 30 ft. lbf). Fasten the left-hand side sway bar link assembly by using 2 nuts with a 6 mm hexagon wrench for tightening to 70 N m (714 kgf cm, 52 ft. lbf) torque. Perform the same installation steps for the sway bar kit section on the right-hand side of the vehicle. After engine under cover sub-assembly installation the mechanic should torque it to 29 N m (296 kgf cm, 21 ft. lbf) before reattaching the front wheels with a torque value of 112 N m (1,137 kgf cm, 82 ft. lbf).
