2007 Toyota 4Runner Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and replace the Starter Motor on 2007 Toyota 4Runner?
A: A safe starting point to change the starter motor assemblies for all vehicles is disconnecting the negative terminal from the battery. You need to disconnect the battery negative terminal before performing 2WD work. After that remove the engine rear under cover assembly using 4 bolts then remove the No.2 manifold stay by working on 3 bolts. The starter assembly removal process begins with disconnecting the wire harness from the cylinder block by unbolting it and progresses to the disconnecting of terminal 50 connector followed by nut removal from terminal 30 and unscrewing two bolts. The procedure for disconnecting the negative terminal from the battery and removing the engine rear under cover assembly matches exactly between 4WD and the initial steps for 2WD. Proceed with disconnecting the heated oxygen sensor (bank 2) connector while running the extraction process of the No.2 front exhaust pipe assembly along with its 2 bolts and 2 nuts and 2 gaskets. Begin by disconnecting connector 50 and then remove the terminal 30 nut and finalizing the starter assembly removal by unscrewing 2 bolts. The installation process for 2WD requires attaching the starter assembly with two bolts at a torque of 37 N.m followed by wire harness attachment to terminal 30 and nut application at 9.8 N.m and terminal 50 connection and lastly connecting wire harness to the cylinder block using a bolt tightened to 13 N.m and a subsequent installation of the No.2 manifold stay with 3 bolts tightened to 40 N.m and the engine rear under cover assembly fitted with four bolts at 29 N.m torque and the battery negative terminal reattachment. For 4WD, install the starter assembly with 2 bolts (Torque: 37 N.m), connect the wire harness to terminal 30 and install the nut (Torque: 9.8 N.m), connect terminal 50, install the steering sliding yoke to the No.2 steering intermediate shaft, tighten bolt B and A (Torque: 36 N.m), install the front fender rear splash shield LH with 5 clips, install 2 new gaskets and the No.2 front exhaust pipe assembly with 2 bolts and 2 nuts (Nut Torque: 62 N.m, Bolt Torque: 48 N.m), reconnect the heated oxygen sensor (bank 2) connector, install the engine rear under cover assembly with 4 bolts (Torque: 29 N.m), and reconnect the battery negative terminal.
