2007 Toyota 4Runner Crankshaft Seal Parts Q&A
Q: How to service and repair a crankshaft seal on 2007 Toyota 4Runner?
A: The crankshaft main bearing seal service requires the automatic transmission assembly removal along with either 2WD or 4WD followed by drive plate and ring gear sub-assembly separation. Special Service Tools 09213-54015 (91651-60855) and 09330-00021 should be used to retain the crankshaft before removing eight bolts and front spacer and drive plate and rear spacer. The oil seal installation requires starting with cutting seal lip edges using a knife before gently removing the seal with a screwdriver while keeping the crankshaft undamaged through securing the screwdriver tip with tape. Install the oil seal by applying MP grease to its lip before using Special Service Tool: 09223-78010 with a hammer to drive the seal until it reaches the rear oil seal retainer edge. Apply adhesive to the mounting bolt end of the drive plate that spans two to three threads while using Special Service Tool: 09213-54015 (91651-60855) and 09330-00021 to retain the crankshaft. After placing the front spacer along with the drive plate and rear spacer onto the crankshaft use Special Service Tool: 09223-78010 to install the eight mounting bolts evenly in their specified sequence and torque them to 83 Nm (846 kgf/cm, 61 ft. lbs.). Inspection of engine oil leakage must follow the reinstallation of automatic transmission assemblies for both 2WD and 4WD.
