Rear Main Seal

The two approaches for replacing the front crankshaft seal depend on whether the rear timing chain cover stays installed or needs removal. Before removing the oil seal from the cover start by prying it out using a screwdriver while protecting both the oil pump and timing chain cover surface by wrapping the screwdriver tip with tape. Use Special Service Tool: 09226-10010 along with a hammer to drive a fresh oil seal into position until its surface reaches the timing chain cover edge before applying MP grease to the lip. A screwdriver should be used to remove the oil seal from the rear timing chain cover but the screwdriver tip should be taped to protect the crankshaft from damage. The procedure for tapping in the oil seal requires Special Service Tool: 09226-10010 together with a hammer until it reaches flush with the timing chain cover edge before adding MP grease to the new oil seal lip.

Special Service Tool: 91651-60855, 09213-54015, and 09330-00021.

Hold the crankshaft again with Special Service Tool: 09213-54015 (91651-60855) and 09330-00021, apply adhesive (Part No. 08833-00070, THREE BOND 1324 or equivalent) to 2 or 3 threads of the mounting bolt end, then install the front spacer, drive plate, and rear spacer on the crankshaft.

Proceed to extract the old seal while taking care not to damage surrounding components.

Install the V-bank cover with the 2 nuts, torquing to 7.5 Nm (76 kgf-cm, 66 inch lbs.).

Remove the 11 clips.

Tap the oil seal in until its surface is flush with the rear oil seal retainer edge.

Apply MP grease to the lip of a new oil seal.

Use Special Service Tool: 09213-54015 (91651-60855), 09330-00021, 0995-50013 (09951-05010, 09952-05010, 09953-05020, 09954-05030).

Loosen the fan with fluid coupling, then remove the fan and generator V belt, followed by the fan with fluid coupling and the crankshaft pulley using Special Service Tools.

Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal and wait at least 90 seconds to disable the SRS system.

Reinstall the drive plate and ring gear, and then install the automatic transmission assembly.

Special Service Tool: 09316-60011 and 09316-00011 along with a hammer.

First, remove the automatic transmission assembly by detaching it from the vehicle.

Connect the cable to the negative battery terminal with a torque of 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 in-lbf).

Install the drive plate and ring gear.

Push in the plunger while turning the stopper plate clockwise, then counterclockwise to insert a 3.5 mm bar to fix it, securing the tensioner with 2 bolts torqued to 10 Nm (102 kgf-cm, 7 ft. lbs.).
