2007 Toyota 4Runner Control Arm Parts Q&A
Q: How to service and repair the front upper Control Arm on 2007 Toyota 4Runner?
A: Service and repair of the front upper suspension arm begins with front disc wheel removal to check for ball joint looseness in the front suspension upper arm assembly LH by hand-shaking of the upper arm. The skid control sensor wire disconnect should begin with removing its two retaining bolts. A jack should be used to support the front suspension lower arm LH while you remove its clip and nut. Service Tool Number 09628-62011 must be used to disconnect the upper ball joint from the steering knuckle followed by removing the bolt and bracket and then the bolt combined with 2 washers and a nut to separate the front suspension upper arm assembly. The front suspension upper arm bush LH requires the first step to be a hammer and chisel raising its bushing flange diagonally before Special Service Tool application: 09613-26010, 09710-22021 (09710-01031), 09950-00020 with a press for removal followed by the same process for the rear side. Prior to installing the nut on the front suspension upper arm assembly LH perform a five-time motion of the ball joint stud while monitoring turning torque at 4.5 Nm (46 kgf/cm, 40 in. lbs.) and inspect for dust cover leakage and ball joint cover fractures. Special Service Tool: 09710-26010 (09710-05061) coupled with a press should be used for installation of a new front suspension upper arm bush LH (front side) before proceeding with the rear side. The front suspension upper arm assembly LH requires temporary tightness by following installation steps of the assembly with bolt and washers and nut then bracket with bolt under torque at 5.8 Nm (59 kgf/cm, 51 in. lbs.). The new nut requires tightening to 110 Nm (1,120 kgf/cm, 81 ft. lbs.) then the skid control sensor wire must be attached to its 2 bolts using 13 Nm (130 kgf/cm, 9 ft. lbs.) torque. First tighten the front disc wheel to 112 Nm (1,140 kgf/cm, 83 ft. lbs.) after which you must stabilize the suspension then tighten the front suspension upper arm assembly LH nut to 115 Nm (1,170 kgf/cm, 85 ft. lbs.) before you can inspect and adjust the front wheel alignment.
