2007 Scion tC Air Bag Sensor Parts Q&A
Q: How to service the side Air Bag sensor on 2007 Scion tC?
A: First disconnect the negative battery terminal cable then wait for 90 seconds as a precaution to stop Air Bag and pretensioner operations. LH-front door lower frame bracket garnish along with assist grip cover LH and front armrest base panel upper LH must be removed by unclipping the components and five claws before disconnecting the switch connector. The next step involves disconnecting the front door service hole cover LH and the front door inside handle sub-assembly LH and the front door trim board sub-assembly LH. After that, remove the side Air Bag sensor assembly LH by disconnecting its connector and removing the two nuts and bolt. When installing the side Air Bag sensor assembly LH secure it with two nuts and bolt while applying a torque of 9.0 N.m (92 kgf.cm, 82 in.lbf). During this step also verify for any damage because if the sensor has been dropped or shows defects it requires replacement. The SRS wiring needs to be positioned in a way that avoids all other components while staying free of pinches before installing the connector. First reinstall the front door service hole cover LH followed by front door inside handle sub-assembly LH and then front door trim board sub-assembly LH and finally front armrest base panel upper LH while securing the connector through the switch connector and the clip and five claws. After installing the assist grip cover and front door lower frame bracket garnish both on the left side accept the negative battery cable reconnection. Initializations must occur after battery reconnection for systems that need this step followed by assessment of the SRS warning light for correct operation.
