2007 Scion tC Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you service the Clock Spring Assembly / Spiral Cable on 2007 Scion tC?
A: A proper servicing of both the Clock Spring Assembly / Clock Spring requires disconnecting the battery cable and waiting for 90 seconds to prevent Air Bag and seat belt pretensioners from activating. First detach the steering pad assembly while keeping the front wheels in a straight position followed by removing the assembly of steering wheel and cover of steering column. The clock spring sub-assembly needs to be removed by disconnecting connectors while protecting the Air Bag wire harness from damage and then unclipping 3 claws. Verify that wheels face forward and set the turn signal to neutral before clock spring installation. Remove any lock pin only if you add a new one to the system. Following connector attachment procedures to the clock spring you need to continue with caution regarding the Air Bag wire harness. Install the steering column cover first before positioning the clock spring using counter-clockwise rotation until it becomes firm and performing another rotation of 2.5 clockwise turns to reach proper alignment. Begin by mounting the steering wheel assembly followed by the steering pad assembly and complete the installation by reconnecting the cable to the negative battery terminal. Analyses of the steering pad assembly should be followed by system initializations after reconnecting the battery and SRS warning light and steering wheel position checks.
