The first step to remove the Clock Spring Assembly / Clock Spring requires disconnecting the negative battery cable and waiting for at least 90 seconds to avoid Air Bag and seat belt pretensioner activation. Start by dismantling the steering pad assembly while the front wheels should be oriented directly forward. The first step involves steering wheel removal followed by removing the steering column cover. The next step involves disconnection of clock spring connectors while being cautious to protect the Air Bag wire harness from any harm during Air Bag connector handling. Using the 3 clamps you should separate to remove the clock spring subassembly.

Service requirements pertaining to Air Bag Systems must be observed before replacing either the Clock Spring Assembly / Clock Spring. The battery negative terminal must be disconnected for 90 seconds before continuing with the work process. The process starts with directive wheel alignment and subsequent horn button assembly and steering wheel assembly extraction using Special Service Tool: 09950-50013 (09951-05010, 09952-05010, 09953-05020, 09954-05021). First detach both the lower steering column cover and clock spring sub-assembly by opening the upper steering column cover then unconnecting the connectors while safeguarding the Air Bag wire harness from damage. The clock spring sub-assembly must be taken out after disconnecting its three claws for examination of scratches or cracks or dents or chipping and requires replacement if you find these conditions. Installation of the new clock spring sub-assembly needs straight front wheels along with the turn signal switch in neutral position to prevent pin snapping incidents. Connect the clock spring sub-assembly with attention paid to the Air Bag connector. The lower steering column cover installation requires checking the ignition switch to be off and disconnecting the negative battery terminal before proceeding. Twist the clock spring sub-assembly downward until it feels secure, then continue turning it rightward two and a half turns at the marks while avoiding the Air Bag wire harness. Reinstall the steering wheel assembly before inspecting the steering wheel center point and returning the horn button assembly to its place. The final step includes reconnecting the battery negative terminal while performing a sequence of power window control and sliding roof system initialization before inspecting both the horn button assembly and SRS warning light.

The replacement process of the Clock Spring Assembly / Clock Spring begins with implementing Air Bag Systems service precautions and then disconnecting the battery negative terminal. Begin by placing the steering wheel facing straight ahead before retiring lower No.2 and No.3 steering wheel cover pieces and both the horn button and steering wheel from the wheel using Special Service Tool numbers 09950-50013 (09951-05010, 09952-05010, 09953-05020, 09954-05021). Once you detach the 2 steering column screws the steering column cover can be removed while you disconnect each Air Bag connector and clock spring sub-assembly connector and unfasten three claws to take it out. The clock spring sub-assembly requires inspection for connector scratches or cracks as well as any presence of cracks, dents or chipping. Replace the clock spring sub-assembly if any of these conditions appear. The front wheel alignment must be checked prior to setting the turn signal switch to neutral position while installing the clock spring sub-assembly including the removal of the lock pin before assembling the steering wheel. Install the steering column cover by using the two screws after rejoining both the Air Bag connector and the connector. Following the procedure properly requires you to disable both the ignition and the negative terminal before counterclockwise rotation until resistance sets in followed by clockwise rotation of the cable till the marks line up. The last steps involve installing the steering wheel assembly followed by steering wheel center point inspection before horn button assembly installation and its inspection and finally testing the SRS warning light.

Slowly rotate it counterclockwise until firm, then rotate it clockwise approximately 2.5 turns to align the marks, avoiding the use of the airbag wire harness for turning.

Remove the steering pad assembly, ensure the front wheels are facing straight ahead, and then remove the steering wheel assembly and steering column cover.

Slowly rotate it counterclockwise by hand until it feels firm, then rotate it clockwise approximately 2.5 turns to align the marks, avoiding the use of the airbag wire harness for turning.

Install the steering column cover.

Ensure the front wheels are facing straight ahead and set the turn signal switch to the neutral position to prevent damage to the pin.

Remove the steering wheel cover lower No.3, followed by the horn button assembly and the steering wheel assembly using Special Service Tool: 09950-50013.

Remove the steering wheel cover lower No.2, followed by the steering wheel cover lower No.2 (without steering pad switch for 4 spoke steering wheel) and the steering wheel cover lower No.3 (for 3 spoke steering wheel assembly).

Install the steering column cover, then position the spiral cable by slowly rotating it counterclockwise until firm, followed by approximately 2.5 clockwise turns to align the marks.

Install the Steering Column Cover (Lower) and adjust the Spiral Cable Sub-Assembly by ensuring the ignition switch is off and the battery negative terminal is disconnected. Rotate the Spiral Cable Sub-Assembly counterclockwise until firm, then clockwise approximately 2.5 turns to align the marks, avoiding turning it by the airbag wire harness.

Ensure the front wheels are still facing straight ahead, set the turn signal switch to the neutral position, engage the 3 claws, and reconnect the airbag connector.

Remove the steering wheel No.3 cover, steering wheel No.2 cover, steering pad, steering wheel assembly, and the steering column cover by removing the 2 screws.

Install the steering wheel assembly, inspect the steering wheel center point, and install the steering pad along with the steering wheel No.2 and No.3 cover lower.

Ensure the ignition switch is off and the battery negative (-) terminal is disconnected, waiting at least 90 seconds after removal.

Ensure to remove the lock pin.

Ensure the front wheels are still facing straight ahead, then set the turn signal switch to the neutral position and remove the lock pin prior to steering wheel assembly installation.
