2006 Toyota Solara Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the clutch master cylinder on 2006 Toyota Solara?
A: The clutch master cylinder service requires that you drain its fluid while you remove both brake master cylinder sub-assembly and brake booster assembly components. The clutch reservoir tube needs disconnecting by releasing the clip and using a fluid collection container for drained fluid. The clutch master cylinder requires disconnection from its flexible hose tube using Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 which demands use of a fluid collection container. First remove the hole pin from the clutch master cylinder push rod clevis while taking out the clip and pin. Then unscrew the two nuts to detach the clutch master cylinder assembly. To dismantle the clutch master cylinder kit use a 5 mm pin punch handled by a hammer to extract the slotted spring pin before removing the inlet union and grommet followed by unlocking the lock nut and detach the push rod clevis and its lock nut. Start by removing the cylinder body boot followed by using snap ring pliers to extract the snap ring during piston rod pressing before you pull the push rod out of the cylinder body with caution regarding possible piston exit. Recover the stop plate followed by the piston and spring from the cylinder while taking care to avoid any inside cylinder body damage. Reassemble the parts by first coating identified areas with lithium soap base glycol grease before placing the piston with spring inside the cylinder then slowly insert the stop plate and push rod. Snap ring pliers should be used to install the snap ring after pushing on the piston rod before applying the boot and lock nut to the push rod. The alternative procedure requires first connecting the push rod clevis to its lock nut followed by installing the inlet union together with a new grommet then inserting the slotted spring pin. The clutch master cylinder assembly must be installed with two nuts secured at 12 Nm torque (120 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.). Install MP grease on the hole pin contact area and bush surface before connecting the clevis through the hole pin from the left side of the vehicle to the clutch pedal assembly with a retaining clip. Secure the clutch master cylinder to the flexible hose tube through the use of Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 before tightening it to 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.). Follow by connecting the clutch reservoir tube to the clutch master cylinder assembly with the clip while carefully preserving its untwisted state. The brake booster assembly and brake master cylinder sub-assembly get reinstallation before you use Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 to bleed the brake master cylinder and complete the process with a brake line and clutch pipe line bleed before filling the brake reservoir tank with clutch fluid to achieve a torque of 8.4 Nm (85 kgf-cm, 74 inch lbs.). The last step involves inspection of brake fluid and clutch fluid leakage while setting the brake pedal height and verifying fluid levels in the reservoir.
