2006 Toyota Prius Speed Sensor Parts Q&A
Q: How to service and repair the Wheel Speed Sensor and Skid Control Sensor on 2006 Toyota Prius?
A: Begin services on Wheel Speed Sensor and Skid Control Sensor by taking off the rear wheel followed by the rear brake drum sub-assembly. You should first separate the skid control sensor wire followed by removing the rear axle hub and bearing assembly before extracting the skid control sensor. The 4 hub nuts need installation onto 4 rear axle hub bolts with an aluminum plate positioning beneath the rear axle hub and bearing for placement in a vise tool. You must replace the rear axle hub and bearing immediately when any dropping incident occurs or when it experiences a powerful shock. Use Special Service Tool: 09520-00031 and its pin punch (3 mm) or hammer to remove the 2 pins along with 2 bolts (90101-12007) from the sensor while it is detached from the rear axle hub and bearing assembly (09520-00031) and its attachment (09521-00010). Remove the sensor using a straight motion and avoid touching the sensor rotor before replacing both the rear axle hub and bearing if the rotor displays damage or signs of deformation. Maintain an unaltered condition with no debris on the sensor contact area of the rear axle hub and bearing. Sensor installation requires removal of sealant with white gasoline on the fitting surface before attaching a new sensor onto the rear axle hub and bearing at the lowest point where the connector must face downward. Special Service Tool 09214-76011 and a press device must be utilized to press and verify that the speed sensor contacts the rear axle hub and bearing directly without using a hammer. The user must inspect the sensor detection area for foreign particles when performing the straight pressing operation. After the rear axle hub and bearing assembly, install the skid control sensor wire, the rear brake drum sub-assembly and end with the rear wheel installation which requires torque at 103 N.m (1,050 kgf.cm, 76 ft.lbf). The technician should examine the rear wheel alignment while verifying that the ABS speed sensor signal works properly.
