2006 Toyota Prius Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the front wheel speed sensor on 2006 Toyota Prius?
A: Service and repair of the front wheel speed sensor starts by taking out the front wheel along with the fender liner. First remove the connector then take out the two bolts (A and B) with the two clamps from the body and front shock absorber system while keeping in mind bolt B uses the brake flexible hose clamp for tightening. Unhook the clip which secures the front shock absorber before removing the bolt and sensor while taking care that no debris attaches to the speed sensor tip or connecting section. The sensor installation requires cleaning of its connecting portion then bolt installation with torques set to 8.0 N.m (82 kgf.cm, 71 in.lbf). To proceed with installation place the clip on the front shock absorber and fasten sensor clamps between the body and front shock absorber using bolts A and B with bolt A torqued to 8.0 N.m (82 kgf.cm, 71 in.lbf) and bolt B torqued to 19 N.m (192 kgf.cm, 14 ft.lbf). It is essential to tighten bolt B as it joins the brake flexible hose clamp positioned above. To complete the installation thread the sensor connector and return the front fender liner and front wheel by torquing it to 103 N.m (1,050 kgf.cm, 76 ft.lbf). The procedure requires verification of ABS speed sensor signal output.
