2006 Toyota Land Cruiser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the PARK/NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH on 2006 Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: Service and repair of the PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH begins with an on-vehicle inspection which requires the parking brake application while turning the ignition switch ON and braking pedal depression until the engine starts only in N or P positions while confirming Back Up light and reverse warning buzzer activation in R. The removal process requires disconnecting the negative battery terminal cable for 90 seconds to avoid Air Bag activation then unplug the park/neutral position switch connector and pry out the lock washer before removing the lock nut and washer together with the bolt and switch. Check the PNP switch connector resistance in every potential position after disconnecting it from the switch. The shift lever needs to be in N position during switch adjustment. First loosen the bolt then align the switch groove with the neutral basic line while holding it in place. Tighten bolt to 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft lbs). Adjustment of the assembly involves the following sequence: attach it to the manual valve shaft using a temporary bolt installation then add new lock washer and nut and tighten them to 7.0 Nm (70 kgf-cm, 62 inch lbs.) while turning the control shaft fully rearward before returning the control shaft lever 2 notches to N to achieve alignment between the switch groove and neutral basic line and finally tighten the bolt to 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.) followed by bending the tabs of the lock washer. You must reconnect the park/neutral position switch connector to the cable then negative battery terminal before performing initialization with system-dependent requirements checked after reconnecting the battery. Check and set the shift lever position along with inspecting the park/neutral position switch assembly before closing the inspection.
