2006 Toyota Land Cruiser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair a TPMS Sensor on 2006 Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: The service and repair work on the Tire Pressure Monitor Valve requires front and rear tire removal then removal of the tire pressure monitor valve sub-assembly. The tire requires air release through valve core and cap removal followed by nut and washer removal of the valve which lets the valve sensor fall into the tire. The shoe of tire removal should be used to break the tire bead yet protect the tire pressure monitor valve from damage. The upper bead removal allows extraction of the valve sensor where you should inspect the grommet for damage before deciding to replace it along with washer and nut if required. To install the tire pressure monitor valve into the rim insert it through the valve installation hole from the inside of the rim where the print surface needs to be visible. Check for any deformation or foreign matter. Install the washer first before tightening the nut to 4.0 Nm (41 kgf-cm, 35 inch lbs.) without leaving any foreign substances. Inflated tires require the valve nut to be retightened to a specific torque value after which soapy water testing should reveal no air leaks. Mount the wheel disc on the machine then insert the lower tire bead while correctly placing the sensor adjacent to the valve to prevent interference followed by upper bead installation that must avoid clamp contact. The vehicle needs installation of both front and rear wheels at their proper torque level of 131 Nm (1,340 kgf-cm, 97 ft. lbs.). After that, inspect each tire and register the transmitter ID and check the tire pressure warning system. You must initialize the system when the negative (-) battery terminal requires it after battery disconnection and reconnection procedures. To perform proper battery disposal remove the component from the tire pressure monitor valve sub-assembly by removing the cover and severing both battery terminals connecting the device to its base board.
