2006 Toyota Corolla Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the brake master cylinder on 2006 Toyota Corolla?
A: Draining the brake fluid will kick off brake master cylinder service along with immediate paint surface fluid wash-off. Service and repair operations on the brake master cylinder start with unfastening the brake fluid level switch connector and removing the air cleaner cap assembly followed by the master cylinder sub-assembly using Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 to separate the 2 or 3 brake tubes from the master cylinder sub-assembly and the No.1 way. The technician also needs to slide the clip to detach the clutch reservoir tube No.1 and disconnect the master cylinder sub-assembly. The procedure requires users to remove two nuts while pulling master cylinder sub-assembly No.1 way and check valve bracket from the system. To detach the brake master cylinder reservoir sub-assembly start by removing its stopper screw along with its cap and strainer and the 2 grommets from the master cylinder sub-assembly. When servicing the brake master cylinder kit users should place the master cylinder sub-assembly into a vise between 2 aluminum plates while first removing the O-ring then pushing in the piston and lastly using snap ring pliers to extract the snap ring with fluid spatter prevention. The removal of either the piston stopper bolt and gasket pair or the straight pin should only happen after verifying protection of the cylinder body. Check the inside of the brake master cylinder for scratches and make a new replacement if required. Before installation place the master cylinder sub-assembly into a vise while using aluminum plates and apply lithium soap base glycol grease to the rubber components before installing the No.1 and No.2 pistons while taking care to prevent damage. Begin by installing a new gasket and piston stopper bolt using 10 Nm torque (102 kgf-cm) or insert the straight pin while pushing the piston into place correctly. Snap ring pliers must be used to put in the hole snap ring while the piston remains pushed in. Then add new O-ring lubrication with lithium soap base glycol grease before installation to the master cylinder body. The reservoir sub-assembly requires strainer and cap installation followed by grommet grease application before inserting them onto the master cylinder body through the stopper screw. Measure the brake booster push rod clearance using chalk following the installation of Special Service Tool: 09737-00013 on the master cylinder while lowering the rod until the piston receives slight pressure. Reposition the component through the use of Special Service Tool: 09737-00020 along with a 7 mm socket driver for length adjustments. Finally, install the master cylinder sub-assembly, No.1 way, and check valve bracket with 2 nuts, torquing to 12.5 Nm (127 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.), connect the brake tubes using Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 with a torque of 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.), reconnect the clutch reservoir tube No.1, the brake fluid level switch connector, install the air cleaner cap sub-assembly, fill the reservoir with brake fluid, bleed the master cylinder and brake line, check the fluid level in the reservoir, and inspect for any brake fluid leakage.
