  A: Service of the ignition switch requires disconnecting the battery cable from the negative terminal then waiting for at least 90 seconds to avoid Air Bag and seat belt pretensioner deployment. The steering column cover becomes accessible after removing three screws from both lower and upper sections by rotating the steering wheel accordingly. Detach the 2 connectors with their attached wire harness clamps that are currently mounted on the steering column. The steering column upper with switch bracket assembly can be taken out using these steps: First mark the center of the 2 tapered-head bolts with a centering punch and then drill holes into the bolt heads using a 3 to 4 mm (0.12 to 0.16 in.) drill.
