- Q: How should one safely deploy and dispose of an Air Bag when scrapping a vehicle equipped with SRS on 2005 Toyota Tundra?A: To scrap a vehicle equipped with SRS or to dispose of a steering wheel pad it is essential to deploy Air Bags first using Special Service Tool: 09082-00700 in outdoor locations to prevent unwanted noise from the short explosion. Always secure the red clip of the tool to the battery positive terminal then connect the black clip to the negative terminal before testing the tool by pressing the activation switch to see the LED illumination. Wait for 90 seconds after disconnecting the negative terminal to remove the steering column cover lower and cut the Air Bag connector (yellow). The Air Bag connector of the clock spring requires connection with the Special Service Tool while safety protocols require the vehicle to stand at least 10 meters (33 feet) away. The process requires deployment using the activation switch after checking that no one is present within the 10 m radius along with prohibiting contact with the steering wheel pad for at least thirty minutes after activation. You should tie down the steering wheel pad for disposal by using a service-purpose wire harness with a minimum cross-sectional area of 1.25 sq.mm. attached to a disc wheel where the Air Bag deploys facing upwards. To deploy the Air Bag again with the Special Service Tool, you must use both cardboard boxes along with tires and weights to secure the steering wheel pad before deploying the Air Bag when no one stands inside a 10 m radius.
