2005 Toyota Solara Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the LOWER BALL JOINT ASSEMBLY FRONT LH on 2005 Toyota Solara?
A: The first step to replace the LOWER BALL JOINT ASSEMBLY FRONT LH requires using Special Service Tool: 09930-00010 to remove the front wheel along with the front axle hub LH nut. Workers must disconnect the speed sensor front LH and both front disc brake caliper assembly and front disc components. The technician should disconnect the tie rod assembly LH by using Special Service Tool: 09628-62011 before disconnecting the lower front suspension arm sub-assembly No.1 LH. Begin the replacement of the front axle assembly LH and lower ball joint assembly front LH by first removing the cotter pin and castle nut followed by usage of Special Service Tool: 09628-62011. After placing the lower ball joint assembly front LH in a vise and installing the nut to the stud bolt the technician should flip the ball joint at least five times while applying continuous torque using a wrench for 3 to 5 seconds per turn and measuring torque on the fifth turn with values within 0.98 to 3.43 Nm (10 to 35 kgf-cm, 8.7 to 30 inch lbs.). A new lower ball joint assembly needs replacement when the exam value shows values beyond the standard. Before installing the lower ball joint assembly front LH on the steering knuckle apply the castle nut with sufficient torque of 123 Nm (1,250 kgf-cm, 91 ft. lbs.) and implement a 60° nut tightness if the cotter pin holes do not match. Start with a new steering knuckle cotter pin before moving onto the front axle assembly LH then the front suspension arm sub-assembly lower No.1 LH followed by the tie rod assembly LH the front disc and the front disc brake caliper assembly LH and speed sensor front LH which require a 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.) torque installation of the front axle hub LH nut. Please perform front wheel alignment inspection while adjusting and conducting a speed sensor signal check on the ABS system.
