2004 Toyota Solara Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the LOWER BALL JOINT ASSY FRONT LH on 2004 Toyota Solara?
A: You should start your LOWER BALL JOINT ASSY FRONT LH replacement with three operations using Special Service Tool: 09930-00010 to eliminate the front wheel and front axle hub LH nut. Proceed by disconnecting the speed sensor front LH as well as the front disc brake caliper assembly LH and the front disc. The installation starts with removing the tie rod assembly LH through Special Service Tool: 09628-62011 then proceeding to disconnect the front suspension arm sub-assembly lower No.1 LH. First remove the front axle assembly LH and then lower ball joint assembly front LH by eliminating the cotter pin and castle nut before using Special Service Tool: 09628-62011. Inspect the front lower ball joint assembly LH by inserting it into a vise then attaching the nut to the stud bolt and performing at least five back-and-forth movements of the ball joint while using a torque wrench to rotate the nut at a pace of 3 to 5 seconds during which time to measure torque on the fifth turn for a reading between 0.98 to 3.43 Nm (10 to 35 kgf-cm, 8.7 to 30 inch lbs.). A new lower ball joint assembly should replace the old one when the value indicates non-specification. The installation of the lower ball joint assembly front LH should include attaching it to the steering knuckle with the castle nut tightened to 123 Nm (1,250 kgf-cm, 91 ft. lbs.) while also turning the nut by an additional 60 degrees if the cotter pin alignment holes do not match. After installing a new cotter pin to the steering knuckle, continue by installing opposite order all other listed parts. End your task by installing the front axle hub LH nut at 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.) before replacing the front wheel and inspecting and adjusting the front wheel alignment and checking the ABS speed sensor signal.
