2004 Toyota Solara Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear Sway Bar Kit on 2004 Toyota Solara?
A: You must remove the wheel on the rear side before starting the sway bar kit replacement process. Start this step by disconnecting the rear sway bar link assembly on the left-hand side through removal of its 2 nuts then use a 5 millimeter hexagon wrench to stabilize the stud when the ball joint turns with the nut. Repeat this procedure for the right-hand side. Perform this exact procedure on the right-hand side as well. During inspection check the left-hand rear sway bar link assembly by repeating ball joint stud movements 5 times before installing the nut. Then use a torque wrench to turn the nut continuously during 3-5 seconds for each turn to record 1.0 Nm torque on the fifth turn; if the torque exceeds 1.0 Nm replace the sway bar link assembly. The interval rotation test should be checked for any unusual movement while also evaluating dust cover condition for potential damage or fluid leakages. The rear sway bar kit removal procedure for convertibles starts with removing 2 bolts and the floor panel brace rear before proceeding to take out 4 bolts and the member brace rear lower from both left and right sides then moving on to the 4 bolts of the center floor panel reinforcement sub-assembly on both sides. You must detach all the sway bar kits as well as their 8 bolts, 4 brackets, and 2 sway bar bushes before removal. Install the sway bar bush on the outside stopper ring of the sway bar kit before securing both 2 sway bar bushes and 4 sway bar brackets with 8 bolts tightened to 19 Nm (195 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.), using the designated bolts (A, B). The repair process for convertibles requires the installation of 4 center floor panel reinforcement sub-assembly bolts on each side according to a torque specification of 56 Nm (571 kgf-cm, 41 ft. lbs.) for Bolt A. After that, the member brace rear lower can be fitted with 4 bolts followed by a torque sequence of 56 Nm (571 kgf-cm, 41 ft. lbs.) for Bolt B and 51 Nm (520 kgf-cm, 38 ft. lbs.) for Bolt C. Completing the repair involves attaching the floor panel brace rear using 2 bolts. Begin by attaching the rear sway bar link assembly to the left-hand side using 2 nuts and tightening them to 39 Nm (400 kgf-cm, 29 ft. lbs.). To prevent the ball joint from turning with the nut, hold the stud with a 5 mm hexagon wrench and perform the same steps on the right-hand side. The repair must end by installing the rear wheel and securing it at 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.).
