2005 Toyota Sequoia Coil Springs Parts Q&A
Q: How to remove the coil springs and rear shock absorber components on 2005 Toyota Sequoia?
A: When removing coil spring and rear shock absorber components begin by removing the rear wheels using a torque of 110 Nm (1,150 kgf-cm, 83 ft. lbs.). A jack should be used to support the rear axle housing. To remove a normal type shock absorber from the axle housing users need to remove one bolt at 87 Nm (887 kgf-cm, 64 ft. lbs.) torque followed by unbolt the opposing side. Hold the piston rod to take off the nut along with the 2 retainers and cushion and shock absorber that need 58 Nmserialization (591 kgf-cm, 43 ft. lbs.) torque and then remove the 2 retainers and cushion from the shock absorber. During shock absorber removal of the auto leveler type the device should be in its maximum extended position. Perform this same torque procedure for disconnecting both sides from the axle housing. Under strict direction while holding the piston rod, remove the nut and retainer together with the cushion and shock absorber using a 58 Nm torque rate (591 kgf-cm, 43 ft. lbs.). Afterwards remove the retainer then the cushion by itself. Start by detaching the LH and RH stabilizer bar links through nut removal at 69 Nm (124 foot-pounds) followed by cutting the lateral control rod by removing the nut and washer and bolt torque to 140 Nm (171 foot-pounds). The nut and bolt installation requires suspension stabilization before applying torque. Lower the axle housing with care to prevent the brake line and parking brake cable from damage and pull out the coil spring as well as hollow spring and insulator during the lowering process. Proper positioning of the coil spring end should be checked during installation; move on with installation only when the correct placement is achieved.
