2005 Toyota Prius Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to overhaul an A/C Condenser with a receiver condenser assembly on 2005 Toyota Prius?
A: The first step to overhaul the condenser HVAC with receiver condenser assembly requires using Special Service Tool: 07110-58060 (07117-58080, 07117-58090, 07117-78050, 07117-88060, 07117-88070, 07117-88080) to discharge refrigerant from the refrigeration system. You need to detach the front fender liner LH and RH along with the front bumper cover and inverter bracket No.1. The discharge hose sub-assembly requires disconnection through removal of its bolt and O-ring followed by opening sealing with vinyl tape to keep out moisture and foreign substances. Disconnect refrigerant liquid pipe E from the condenser assembly then take off the O-ring before sealing the openings using vinyl tape. The removal of 4 bolts enables you to detach the radiator support sub-assembly upper RH and LH portion. Remove the receiver condenser assembly after taking out two angles along with two bolts. A 14 mm (0.55 in.) straight hexagon wrench will detach both the cap and O-ring from the cooler dryer while pliers remove it from its seat. Use pliers when installing the new cooler dryer alongside a new O-ring and apply ND-OIL 11 compressor oil to the O-ring and fitting surface before tightening the cap while maintaining steady pressure to prevent insulation performance failure. The cooler condenser core needs a cap installation with 2.9 Nm (30 kgf.cm, 25 in.lbf) torque. Position the receiver condenser assembly with 2 bolts while tightening to 3.9 Nm (40 kgf.cm, 35 in.lbf) with the two additional angles. Secure the radiator support sub-assembly upper RH and LH by tightening 4 bolts to respective torque settings which include Bolt A at 5.0 Nm (51 kgf.cm, 44 in.lbf) and Bolt B at 3.9 Nm (40 kgf.cm, 35 in.lbf) as well as Bolt C at 7.5 Nm (76 kgf.cm, 66 in.lbf). Rejoin open end E of the cooler refrigerant liquid pipe after you remove adhesive tape and install a new O-ring while applying ND-OIL 11 and tightening the bolt to 5.4 Nm (55 kgf.cm, 47 in.lbf). Fasten the discharge hose sub-assembly by applying compressor oil and a new O-ring before tightening it to 5.4 Nm (55 kgf.cm, 47 in.lbf). The mechanic will restart installation by placing Bracket Inverter No.1 and Front Bumper Cover and Front Fender Liners LH and RH back into position. Service Tool: 07110-58060 (07117-58060, 07117-58070, 07117-58080, 07117-58090, 07117-78050, 07117-88060, 07117-88070, 07117-88080) will be used to charge the system while maintaining a 450 + 30 g (15.87 + 1.05 oz.) intake amount and then warm up the compressor following the inspection for refrigerant leaks.
